SAN MAURO CILENTO
‘A Maschkarata, the Ancient Carnival of San Mauro Cilento, a mix of popular theater scenes intertwined and reminiscent of commedia dell’arte. The event usually takes place on the last Sunday of Carnival and Fat Tuesday. On the parade day, the tófa (buccina) is played to announce the event. ‘A Maschkarata has very ancient origins. In fact, the event has been studied by a team of experts tasked by UNESCO to verify the possibility of inclusion in the intangible heritage of humanity.
